Following the crowd, weekend in review:
  • Reading - Religion and politics as usual
  • Hiking - Banana slugs out in force!
  • Sick - Meh

I finished The Battle for God. I have a longish review of it to post if I can be arsed. Technically, this isn't weekend in review, but I previously finished The Iron Wall which is a history of Israel-Arab relations from the "new historian" perspective. Very well written and informative (and contrary to some perceptions, not "evil israel! good arabs!" but certainly it isn't  "good israel! evil arabs!" either.)

Also, LibraryThing roxx0rs or something. I'm so far mostly using it to keep track of books I want to read rather than I already have so don't be confused if you look at my library.

Saturday, we did some errands and chores (I did the taxes). But more importantly, we went on a hike in Eaton Park. It was quite windy and it had rained that morning. Surprisingly, the trails weren't very muddy. The dogs loved it but I held us up with pictures. I took a bunch of flower pictures, but none really came out. The couple dog pics weren't that great, although here is one:

Dogs at Eaton Park

Bacchus, the new dog, is on the left. He's rescue but is pretty good now. He's maybe 3 years old and around 70 pounds at this point. Chullain is a little over 2 years old now and is about 80 pounds now. The vet says they aren't overweight so, they are just huge. But they are adorable. I have to get a picture of them in full play mode with the two of them several feet off the ground.

Continuing in Eaton Park, we just about walked all over this:

Banana Slug Attack!

And then close to the end of the hike, another one:

Banana Slug Attack Again!

Oh no! The slugs are going to conquer us!

Then Sunday, of course, I was sick. I probably slept 18 hours off and on with some attempts at reading. Not clear why I was sick except that I couldn't stay awake and things hurt.

Oh well.

If television is a babysitter, the internet is a drunk librarian who won't shut up.

When I was googling I found out just what your college mascot was .. and was kind of jealous since mine was just a boring moutain lion.

I got my college and high school mascots confused. High school was mountain lion. College was "wildcat" whatever that means.

Although I did live in Nittany Lion college town for a while.

I think if I had seen a slug up on a tree branch I would have been freaked. Fortunately banana slugs are forest floor slugs.
